Cruise calls

Funchal’s cruise berths are in the harbour at the western end of the city seafront. The city centre is walkable from there, and SIGA’s urban buses run along the Avenida do Mar, so a day ashore does not need a tour unless you want one.

Where are the buses from the cruise terminal?

Along the seafront.

Our stop data names three stops on the harbour side of the centre, “Cais”, “Marina” and “Praça Autonomia”, and the routes that call at them are listed below from the route data. The Aerobus to the airport stops at stop 06 “Avenida do Mar” on the same avenue. The port authority, APRAM, publishes berth information; your ship publishes its own shuttle and all-aboard arrangements.

From the ship to the first stop

Walk out of the port gate and follow the seafront east towards the centre: the Marina and the Cais stops are on that avenue. We do not print a walking time, because the berth you are given changes the distance and neither SIGA nor the port publishes one. If your ship runs a shuttle, it will say where it drops you.

Monte in half a day

Monte, with its church, gardens and toboggan run, is the classic cruise-day outing. Routes 020 and 021 start on the central seafront. Route 048 runs from Nazaré to Monte; it is not a city-centre departure. The cable car is a separate operator and is not covered here.

Câmara de Lobos, the hotel zone and further

Câmara de Lobos is the nearest town west of Funchal and has its own destination page. The Lido and Praia Formosa are inside the city on urban routes. Anything further, Curral das Freiras, Porto Moniz or the east, is a full day by bus and only sensible on a long call; the day-trips guide says how long each takes to plan.

Tickets for a day ashore

Tickets bought on board the bus are paid in cash, not by card, so bring small euro notes and coins. Journeys inside Funchal are municipal fare; Câmara de Lobos is a different municipality. The fares guide has the official amounts and the GIRO card explains pre-purchased journeys if you plan several rides.

Back on board in time

Decide the return bus before you leave the stop, pick one earlier than you need, and keep your ship’s all-aboard time, not the sailing time, as the deadline. A Sunday or holiday call runs on a different timetable sheet. If you are joining or leaving the ship by air, the Aerobus from the Avenida do Mar is the airport link.

Checked against

Stop names and routes are computed from this site’s route and stop data, which reconcile to SIGA; the Aerobus stop comes from SIGA’s route poster. Checked 15 October 2026.
