Luggage on Madeira buses: published guidance
Is there a luggage rule?
No luggage rule was found in the SIGA FAQ and Aerobus page checked for this guide.
This does not establish that no rule exists: the operators’ own carriage conditions were not checked. Ask your operator about suitcase sizes, charges, bikes, surfboards and prams before travelling.
We checked SIGA’s FAQ and its Aerobus page for a luggage rule and found none. Rather than invent one, this page lists what the authority does publish and where to ask for anything it does not.
What SIGA does publish
SIGA’s registered wheelchair service requires eligibility evidence, including declared disability of at least 60%, and booking two days ahead, subject to its published deadline. Regular Horários do Funchal buses with a wheelchair symbol need no booking, subject to space; this excludes regular services in Zonas Altas do Funchal. Read the accessible-travel guide and SIGA’s conditions before relying on either service.
Suitcases and the Aerobus
Route 500 and 500R exist to carry airport passengers between the terminal, the city centre and the hotel zone, and the hotel A–Z poster lists which stop serves which hotel. The airport guide explains the stops and carries the dated timetable; it does not add a luggage rule, because the checked SIGA FAQ and Aerobus page contain none.
Who to ask
SIGA’s Aerobus page lists the three operators’ contact numbers for timetable and route questions: Horários do Funchal for urban routes, Rodoeste for the west and CAM for the east, alongside the authority’s own line. Ask the operator that runs your route about bikes, surfboards, prams or oversized items; we will not guess on their behalf.

- SIGA Rodoeste: +351 291 220 148
- CAM: +351 291 201 151

Practical, not official
Keep bags out of the aisle and off seats on a full bus, and have the cash fare ready so boarding with luggage is quick. On a day trip, a daypack is all you need; left-luggage is a question for your accommodation, not for the bus. None of this is a SIGA rule; it is ordinary courtesy.
Checked against
SIGA FAQ and Aerobus page checked on 15 October 2026. No luggage rule found in these sources; operators’ own carriage conditions not checked.
