Boaventura is a serene coastal village situated in one of the greenest valleys of Madeira. Known for its agricultural traditions and dramatic mountain backdrops, it offers a glimpse into the tranquil, slower-paced life of the island's north coast.
Getting there and back
Which route
Where to board
Route 006 is a Rodoeste service that starts in Funchal; its SIGA sheet lists Funchal, Câmara de Lobos, Ribeira Brava, Serra de Água, Encumeada and São Vicente before Boaventura. The route page lists the Funchal stops.
From the stop
The Boaventura timing point is on the main road through the village; the valley viewpoints and the Levada de Cima start are reached on foot from there.
The way back
The return runs Arco de São Jorge → Funchal through Boaventura. SIGA marks some trips "via rápida", which skip villages on the Funchal side: check on the route page that your return calls at Boaventura, and pick it before leaving Funchal.
Good to know
- The sheet shows only a handful of trips a day in each direction, and Boaventura is near the far end of the route: this is a full-day outing.
How to get to Boaventura by bus
Official SIGA route 006 runs between Funchal and Arco de São Jorge, with Boaventura listed on many trips. Check the current timetable because express variations may skip intermediate stops.
